Ideas for Modern Living : Innocence

Modern Living has enveloped us all in everyday life. From being woken up by a snooze alarm clock, the toast popping up from the toaster till the time your iPod puts you back to sleep. Its the good life. However it has also brought along its overheads that makes us almost dependent to modern lifestyle and its bells and whistles. From the core of values, perhaps the one thing missing is Innocence.
Innocence is missing at home, in corporate offices, in politics and every walk of life. Lack of this innocence encompasses lying for benefit, shrewdness to the point of obscenity and pretend living till the time we don’t realize who we have become and lose our identity. Its pushing young kinds into bad habits and the adults just have become accustomed to this. Everyone today is a cut-throat bitch. So while we may have the technology and advancement in science to keeping us update to date with our prescription – I am questioning the very need for this entire cycle.
Innocence is something we are born with, but get rudely taken away from us as we grow up. To say the truth, to smile genuinely, to being in love ; this the innocence we have lost. Lets get back to basics. Lets appreciate the little things in life. Start small, start with honesty and notice the change in you and the way you look at life.

Lack of Updates

Since the time i have come to college i have little update my blog. In fact i made only one post on New Years eve. Not that there has not been much happening, there has been a LOT happening on the contrary, i have simply been lazy. However guys out here have started their blog.

So I have been thinking, may its time i also started updating bits and pieces of my college life, after all these are the best days of your life. To begin with let me tell you what i have been doing over the past few months. I am doing Game Design (4years) from DSK Supinfogame (part of DSK International Institute of Industrial Design, Gaming and Animation) which is a brand new school in Pune. Some of the great stuff we do here is game research, game analysis, making games (yeah baby!). I have made a board game with team partner Rohonak. Right now i am working on a mini video game (using C# and XNA). I have also been spending extensive time working and discovering Linux(Ubuntu) I use it as my primary operating system-so expect lot posts on that. I am infact typing my blog post using Drivel.

So there you go, my first update in a long time. Hope to be posting more often.

New Year’s Eve on the Road

Happy New Year to all readers
Its been a long hiatus for this blog, last post written was in July. Reasons for the hiatus will be covered in subsequent blog posts.
Its been a great year, with wonderful events. To mention a few – my college, my new friends, ubuntu linux. This New Year’s Eve was again as unique (thanks xbz) as last time with the exception of my friends ! For now, i am only posting pics, updates later

Joggin on the highway

At 9 PM I decided to have food at my hostel. The three guys who were at the hostel during the vacations had made plans to go to the city. Me being a lazy guy decided to spend New Years :-

New Years Eve Plan : 1. Oder Pizza and Friends 2. Sit online watch what the word is doing 3. Two minute silence for the mumbai victims

. I called up dominos who refused to devliver so far one one order. I got up, thinking (not thinking actually) I’ll go the nearest ATM and get some money. Since i had recetly given up my bike, i had to jog. There was no ATM for 3 K.m – jo i ended up jogging close to 4 K.m (the milestone marking on the highway helped calculate the distance) Finally one failed ATM later – I finally managed to get money on the 4th attempt at the second ATM.

This was the only palce where i could smell some good chicken, so like a wolf i sniffed my way there. Bought Chicken wings and Hakka Noodles and a can of fosters. Jogged my way back part-way , a auto-rickshaw guy dropped me half way through. Snuck my way back to my room at 11PM and turned on FRIENDS Season 7. F-Spot was silently uploading the above pics to Picasa in the meanwhile

Orkut, Facebook are dead

Social Networking websites like Orkut and Facebook are totally a waste of time now. Apart from usefully stuff like posting photographs you can share and birthday reminders, they whole scrapping and logging on everyday is a total waste of time. Not only that, its boring! Facebook users outside India may beg to differ and I agree with you. When you have a close knit network, it maybe fun to keep talking or goofing around on facebook. Indians on the other hand, I feel, somehow give a very jobless and bored impression. Orkut is either flooded with spam or totally pointless cheesy scraps. Since the ‘Scrap All’ script has come(and html support in scrapbooks), this situation has become particularly annoying. Orkut also copied facebook and introduced ‘feeds’ that shows updates from your friends profile. Needless to say, 9 out 10 are ‘last name changed’ updates. So-and-so changed his or her name from mY PrINCE CHarMInG to **snOW WHiTE GuRl**. Its really stupid because you have a hard time finding who they actually are.

I think SoNets(Social Netwroking) should be used as a companion and not cumpulsion, as is the case with half the Indians. Logging in every 2 hours to see if anyone ‘scrapped’! I last logged in 2 days ago and all I had on my scrapbook were 4 identical junk scraps containing huge flash font and links to javascraipt(oh yea! like it will ACTUALLY tell me who i have a crush on!)
Facebook has nothing but re-hall-ee annoying application requests flooded. Guys, thanks for the ignore all button but you seriosuly goto do soemhting about these applications.. its out of control!

Orkut now has Warplans!

Orkut is being used for a lot of things today.None of which are related to social networking. Advertising, Spamming, Breeding ground to Illegal downloads, Malicious softwares, Hate communities, Political propaganda. One of the topics brought to light recently was the discussion of sensitive and confidential topics relating to national security. This is a matter of grave concern. With advancements in technology, services such a Google Earth has made it possible for every teenager to peek into neighboring country borders having such a volatile and popular platform such as Orkut to discuss matters of national security is cause for concern.

I decided to investigate the matter myself. The search keyword indian air force has 132 community results while indian army has 322 communities. Most of these communities seem innocuous on the surface. Lot of communities are filled with commercial links/spam – but thats the case with every community (poor moderation). However there are some communities which have topics discussing confidential matters such as Aircraft specifications, technical data, missile details etc. There are topics titled “News” which are flooded with internal information. While many such community owners and member participants, who are serving personnels, will argue that this is harmless debate, I beg to differ. With IT specialists working for government agencies today swarming and crawling the internet hunting for bits and pieces of information like scavenger wolves, giving out even the tiniest bit of lead can prove fatal and cause serious repercussions.

I further looked up the keywrods USAF on facebook and myspace. The results were totally off track with search resulting in either previous batches or support groups. None discussing internal affairs. So what can we do about this? To start with the defence forces need to have strong moderating team for Sensitive Internet Content. The personnel must be cautioned against such activities and be educated about threats online. Any personnel found indulging in such activates must be warned.
We are all for freedom of speech, but when it leads to revealing sensitive information concerning national security we must put an end to it. In an attempt we can form an Content Censoring group and hope to reduce the leak of sensitive information.

Pissy Day

Its been a while since I last posted. Main reason was obviously laziness. But there are others; I started watching Kyle XY, I went to Mumbai to spend Diwali. The past week, starting from Diwali has been extremely annoying,to say the least.

I wanted to spend Diwali with friends. Diwali happens to be one of my favourite festivals that I love spending with friends bursting crackers (SAY-YES-TO-CRACKERS). My parents decided to go to Mumbai instead this year. I rebelled a lot to stay back but was ultimately emotionally blackmailed into going along with them. I had my mind to see Om Shanti Om first day first show. Going to mumbai effectively ruined that. After landing in mumbai, I took off to Pune (a dear friend lives there) hoping I’ll enjoy there. Even though I had great fun there, it wasn’t what I had planned for. The tickets for the movie were booked there too so I was left hanging again. I returned back to Mumbai and spent Diwali night watching Main Hoon Na on TV(and refusing to participate in any of the event of course). So that was Diwali for me this year.

I did eventually watch Om Shanti Om day-before yesterday with two friends which was amazing fun. The movie totally rocked and I had a great time.A day before my cat, Balckie, decided to take off on a hunting trip. It returned today two days later. I was pretty scared as it usually returns within 12 hours.

Today being a Saturday, I got up late at 11 o’clock. There was International Trade Fair today, which ruined my beautifull Saturdy I was hoping to laze all day long.The trade fair was an absolute waste of time. To make me feel worse there was a Hall of Technology which had Archie’s Gallery . I got so mad those 4 hours that I fet like punching the next person who came in my way.

Its just been sucha crappy idiotic week. Wating for the angels now…
