In India, we celebrate a festival called Deepawali (deep-aa-va-lee), also called Diwali (dee-va-lee). While its traditionally celebrated by lighting earthen lamps, it is also celebrated by bursting crackers in its modern day form. It usually comes during the months of October or November – this year, we seem to be celebrating it early. 21 low intensity ammonium nitrate based bombs have been found in Surat,Gujrat over the past 2 days (28th July-30th July) just over 24 hours after explosions went of in Bnagalore,Karnataka. A total of close to 25 bombs have rocked our country in less than a week. We as a nation are the fastest at wiping away the blood from our hands and moving on. For a nation so broken and corrupt, we are the very best at recovering from tragic incidents and losses. To add to troubles we are at tenterhooks with our neighboring countries facing maximum insurgency and terrorist attacks. Following the recent cease-fire violation committed by Pakistan we hoped that some sort of national emergency would be called for , but instead we have the opposition politicians accusing the ruling government of conspiracy. No doubt that is very well possible, and if it were ever to be reveled, we would still not be bothered. We as a nation are extremely strong. We laugh at the measly attempts of the terrorist for nothing can ever move us. We fall, we brush ourselves and move on. Any other country by now would have its president and defense forces shitting and howling in an attempt to pick on the next country an attempt annihilate it. India has always followed the principles laid down by of on the greatest men to talk her soil, Mahatma Gandhi – the teachings of non-violence. So we can get bombed, hijacked, conspired against, be neck deep in debts – nothing will dampen our spirits. We move on, without saying a word…

Yes, Its finally released. Steal This Film II focuses more on the basic human need to share and communicate. Unlike part I, this one doesn’t talk about film piracy or the folks at TPB. Instead Steal This Film II is more about the history of information exchange, sharing and how almost every day to day activity of ours is connected to that. The film has a lot of legal and historians talking about the fundamental need of human nature –which is sharing. Also unlike part I one of the famous pirates are featured. We do have Erik from Mininova and Aaron Swartz, co-founder reddit.

And as always, share redistribute and screen this movie as much as you can. You can support the movie by doing so and also by donating some money towards their next film.

The goal of this project is to extend existing logging subsystem of Gaim, popular multi-platform instant messaging client. With this extension you don’t need to copy valuable information form messenger to external device no more … [.]

This has always been my long lasting wish! Finally, as part of the Google Summer of Code , remote logging in pidgin is being developed by Shkutkov Michael. What this means is that I need not be on Yahoo Messenger(yuck) everytime so my chats gets saved in my inbox. Google Talk also has an option of logging all your chats(optional) in your Gmail inbox which I frequently use. Hopefully with the sucess of this users on Linux can safely chat without the fear of any logs getting missed out

Special Thanks to Anirudh for his extremly vital contribution! Its truly his article!

Scholastic and Bloomsbury on 28th revealed the covers of the final installment in the enthralling and exhilarating and most expected book of this year. Its already a best seller on Barnes and Noble.com as well as Amazon.com. J.k Rowling has been extremely tight lipped about the whole episode and has not reveled anything except that its going to be a very emotional book and will see many character, both good and bad, dying. Arthur Levine, on of the select persons who has read the book is quoted to say that the sobbed as the read the final chapters of the book on Today.

Surprisingly Rowling has offered the thinking reader a lot to ponder about and has hidden clues about the happening of Book 7 in the covers of the Books.Lets analyze each cover:

UK Adult Edition

The UK adult edition is very sophisticated and yet clearly shows the ‘locket’ that Harry is looking for which holds the vital key to Voldermort’s life. The back just shows a picture of Rowling and this dosent offer much to discuss.

UK Children’s Edition

<a href="http://www.mugglenet.com/viewer/?image_location=/dhcovers/hp7childuk.jpg"click to enlarge

Now here is where it gets interesting. While only three characters can bee seen at the first look, a second and a third viewing reveals something! Who is holding Godric Griffyindor’s sword behind Harry? You look closer and you will see the pointing ears of a elf- namely Kreacher ! Once that comes to light, it puts a few other things in perspective. The spilled gold all around and the arc structure and top. Does it ring a bell? No, ok. We all know that the locket is the one important thing Harry and the Oder of Pheonix members are looking for. Theories and fact lead us to believe that Kreacher, the faithful elf of the black family had thrown it away in anger along with the Black’s other wealth. Wizards as we all know put all their wealth in the safest bank- Gringotts. So the arch structure is Gringotts itself and Kreaceher supposedly seems to be helping Harry find the locket!
The background shows Gringotts in fire too symbolizing a possible duel. Wow thats a lot of info!

US Children’s Edition

While the US front cover is equally revealing we will analyze the full width cover art put up on the Leaky Cauldron. Looking closely at what Harry is wearing show us a thing chain around his neck. Look closer and you will see a LOCKET ! The very locket that he has been looking for. So it can be assumed that Harry does find the locket. Also Voldy seems a little mad, possibly wanting the locket back . Harry is also looking up and looking for somebody. Who could it be..? Rack your brains and you ll find the answer. Somebody who has always been there when harry duels. Someone who didnt let us accept that Dumbledore is dead. So one who lamented all night long. The bird with healing tears- FAWKS! It seems very obvious that Harry is looking into the skies waiting for it.

Such important details in three pieces of Illustrations. Wow! Its truly going to be a thrill ride reading this book but dammit she is making us wait too much ! Do visit this page often as I will be constantly updating it.

After completing 3,we were sure to expect something coming form the Google Base camp- the expected has turned out to be a new feature for Orkut. Orkut now has the function to upload videos, either personal or from Google video/You Tube(Google acquired You Tube ). Well not very exciting, but still very useful. I hope Orkut understands with the bad state of controversies it is in, Orkut video only adds more !

In my opinion, this is service is nothing great, not something they should treat as a 3rd Birthday gift. Sorry, but Not Impressed.

Edit : The timestamps have been finally fixed ! This was long awaited and finally they now show correctly according to the local time.

In the age of advancing technology, the capital lags behind disgracefully. If there is one thing I hate about the capital is the fact it is so technologically rotten. My personal experience has been utterly horrid. To get a decent broadband connection, it has taken me 2 years and I am stuck typing this article on a a dial up !
Here a few things I noticed about the various connections.

MTNL Triband

Overly expensive

Not worth the money

Pathetic customer support and don’t expect it to work in areas with bad telephone lines

Local Cable Connection

Erratic (I once got 200 KBps on a 64 Kbps line)

Cant get overly frustrating (expect a few things on your house to break)

Again no customer support

Dial-Up

Consistent

No Disconnections !

Slow

Well well well, So I guess you know which connection to choose !
The problem with most of the local broadband connections like Sify, Airtel and others is the lack of coverage area. MTNL which is a government run organization is taking over small and new pvt. sector companies in the hope to build a good infrastructure. I still await for the results. Oh and the irony, the I&B minister says ” 2007 is the year of broadband and internet ! ”
