I finally decided to take the plunge in to the sea on android, and get myself the best the market has to offer. After weeding through the basic phones(Sony Ericsson Xperia 10 mini pro) and the some that are really different (Motorola Backflip) I am left with two – The Samsung Galaxy S (I9000) and the HTC Desire. Both are beautiful phone. While the Galaxy boats of raw beast like power, the desire has a gorgeous and desirable look and feel to it.

A people have problems about the desire being pitted and critiqued against the Galaxy S on the HTC Desire. Both phones have pros and cons and invariably all threads turn into flame wars with each contingency coming in full support for the phone they like/support. After reading reviews and seeing enough videos, i finally got the change to go and demo these two devices. Here are my reactions :

1. Galaxy S has a really ugly design, aesthetically this phone is a piece of cheap plastic. Sorry to be harsh, but thats the truth. it looks like the iPhone but feel wise its nothing like it (its worse). So feel wise, this device definitely takes a hit. The Desire on the other hand is smooth. Love the feel of the phone, it feels like a phone!
WIN : Desire

2. I did not notice a lag while swiping through the screens. The Touchwiz 3.0 UI is ordinary to say the least. If i buy it i would definitely look to replace it. The Sense UI is better, but honestly i would prefer stick android.
WIN : Desire Sense UI (better of two devils)

3. Performance : This is where the device scores, its a beast yes. Applications run fast and smooth. While the desire was fast, it was always feel behind a few seconds.
WIN : Galaxy S

4. Texting : I text a LOT. I have a Samsung Corby pro and this device is amazing for heavy texting! While both the desire and galaxy have on screen keyboard, i did not find it easy to type on galaxy s, despite the unique swype method. Ergonomically it was painful to hold the phone in one hand like a slate and swipe my index finger to type texts. i prefer to hold my device like a gamepad and text with my thumbs. The desire fits very comfortably and as many reviews have said, it has one of the best on screen keypads around
WIN : Desire

5. Gaming : Galaxy all the way. Noticeable difference, hell yes. Who wants to play games on phones? I DO! One thing i would like to compare is the gaming comparison with iPhone 3Gs. The game that i played was i think not on the iPhone so i could only test between these two devices and the performance on Galaxy S felt much better.
WIN: Galaxy S

So here is where i am confused. The two most important things for me is texting and gaming. Desire wins in texting , Galaxy wins in gaming. however if the desire is on par or better in gaming as compared to the iPhone/iTouch then i am willing to settle

I was hearing this song today by Owl City called Fireflies. As I interpret it, the singer is talking about an adult talking about his childhood and how he would like to go back to it. Sort of like Peter Pan singing! I have heard that song so many times now and i cant seem to get bored. Even the video is beautiful. Reminds me of all the toys i used to play with. Also the main instrument used is a Keyboards, which i absolutely love. Amy Lee of Evanescence, The Fray both use the piano a lot and I love most of their songs. Another subtle message which i most associate with is how the singer feels caught in a crazy complicated life not knowing weather to be asleep to stay awake. Of course its just a personal interpretation! Its something I am feeling everyday these days. Trapped in a giant supernova of broken asteroids and dust all swirling in a circle under a powerful force. I have been living in fear everyday, carefully treading with every action of mine; I still manage to make the wrong ones every now and then. As i was hearing the song, I was also browsing through images of various location (as part of an assignment). 3 out of the five were beautiful untouched beaches located on the earth as tiny specks in vast oceans. I love islands and beaches covered with thick green forest all over ;reminded me of my vacations this summer to Lakshadweep.

Being in my second year of college, i certainly expected more out myself. I thought i would be spreading my wings in different directions in life and going crazy. Instead I am tied to my chair in a 9to5 college where the only thing that is being trained to fly is my imagination. Its so ironical that people feel Design Colleges are supposed to be a battlefield where your imagination clashes with reality and run wild galloping and conquering the unknown. Is it weird then, that feel stuck in a cog machine being ground in monotony? Its been a while since i lived my live without fear, burden and the blanket of suffocation. Without thinking about that semi-solid platform and taking a leap of faith.

I stand in the mirror and I find myself Lost in my life. I wish i could step on a plane crash land on a remote island and understand myself better. I want to break free. Like someone once said, when you get addicted to drugs – blaming the drug or the creator of the drug is pointless

They say the greatest weakness in a kingdom is the king’s mind ; and an empire can rise and call depending on how he think and feels. Wars waged over ego, love and power all originate from the mind of a king. Former president of the modern day empire, also grew and suffered with the the collective minds of a few great men. Our greatest weapon of mass destruction is our mind itself. Human beings are gods. We are advanced in our thought, our brains have mutated to great extents. A great man’s mind once questioned a fallen apple which led to him discovering the strongest force in nature. Another discovered that mass exists beyond what we can see ; another made it possible to see what could not be seen. We are ruthless and we wont stop. The universe lies as man’s biggest mystery today.

Since our existence we have unraveled mysteries spanning few years before and few years after. And with each year we continue this bi-directional growth of discovering the unknown. This phenomenon can be compared with Bilinear Interpolation. In simplest terms, If we are to assume our existence with respect to time is somewhere on the horizontal X-axis, then we progress each year in both the negative as well as the positive direction.

Coming back to our human mind, Who controls the human brain? Doesn’t our brain control the interaction between various body parts. A common example, If we wish to lift our arm – we tell our brain that we want to lift our arm, which triggers nerves and activates muscles to generate a moment in our arm, to which our eyes register and sends a notification to our brain that the arm moved in a direction. The brain then inspects this direction and tally’s it to a previously trained colloquial terminology called UP. So, our arm moved up. Its kind of is a full circle originating at the brain and coming back to it. If our arm were to move down and our eyes registered the opposite movement, imagine how we would be living today.

Now lets talk about a highly debatable organ, much loathed by the brain, as it tried to steal its thunder. I am talking about the heart. Over centuries this debate has been dragged on. Does the heart ‘think’ ? Is it capable of influencing actions and decisions of our brain? Is our heart our soul? Is it our conscience? Scientifically, its a slave to the brain, providing it the basic necessity of blood. The relationship is highly interesting though and it will reveal a common link to lots of relationships both superficial and natural. The brain is made up of tissues and other biological components that like every other organ needs blood. The brain however does not produce blood. The heart functions to produce blood, independent of the brain at least on a voluntary level. Involuntarily the brain maybe controlling that too, maybe the brain does secretly produce blood in a sense.
We dont know what the brain is capable of involuntarily. Maybe its beyond our control, but then we would have to define ‘control’ for that. So by stating what is not true we are trying prove a something false. So if it did control everything, why would it let the body deteriorate with diseases? Maybe it shares a symbiotic relation with another organ, maybe the heart.

When in a dilemma, or a choice we often say that we can listen to either our heart or our mind. Almost often they are different. Perhaps another reason to disbelieve the supreme authority of the brain. Now what if we were able to artificially influence the brain. Our brains would be working to develop a means to counter itself. Kind of a paradox situation? Will our brains allow us to ever do that? Or is it not under our brain’s capacity to do so. Is it why we still dont know about the existence of the universe? Why does a brain end its own life? Why do we commit suicide?

The author wishes to convey that he is depressed and of highly unstable mind. Here is wishing him a fast recovery and hope he feels better soon

In todays day and age of aggressive mass media, cut-throat fight to deliver the best, hot selling (dont care about true) news, new ways of getting your content delivered to the public helps a lot. The best example is Blogs. Technology may have changed but ethics have gone down-hill. Its just become as easy as type and push and you have your piece of written bit available to the public eye in a matter of microseconds. Talking about ethics, a recent shocking and ethically appalling news came into light recently.
The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and 4 other crew members including a Pilot and Co-pilot were killed when the helicopter carrying them from Hyderabad to Chittoor crashed in bad weather in Nallamalla forests in Kurnool district on Wednesday (2nd September) morning. The charred bodies and the wreckage of the chopper were found the next morning after a massive search operation. There were several questions raised after this tragedy. Like,

Why did the Chopper take off in bad weather?

Was the Helicopter airworthy?</li?

Why did the Emergency Locator Transmitter(ELT) not get activated upon crash?

Why is the communication framework in India still so poor that many parts of our country are inaccessible and have no means of communication

But probably the most bizarre and shocking question raised by a journalist put serious question on the credibility of Journalism and Journalism ethics. Vikram Sharma of expressbuzz.com (Part of Indian Express group) has written a blog entry asking if the Pilot was in a peaceful mental condition. Baseless and written in poor taste this article raises a finger on a highly qualified Pilot who has served in the Indian Air Force for 25years. He has commanded a squadron under high pressure situations and has over 7000hours of flying experience under his belt. The 2nd of September was just an unlucky day for him and others on board. Its a risky job and daredevils like Gp Capt. SK Bhatia face this challenge everyday as a routine. Writing such thoughtless and surreal articles without having concrete proof and accusing such a great personality is something the Journalist and his organization should be ashamed of. Have some compassion for what the families of the departed are going through. I do not say, burry the matter. Enquire, ask questions , demand to know the truth – but do all this before pointing fingers and accusing a professional of amateurism. Forcing his Son to come and defend his father is not something the Indian Express should be responsible for. Have some sanctity for the departed and not cloud his character by cheap publicity.

Human beings are a highly evolved life form on this planet. The word comes from the Latin, Homo Sapien , meaning wise man. And Wise he is. Today Humans have the most complex and developed brain capable of logic, structural thinking , ability to love , feel pain and numerous complex emotions. They can communicate use of gestures, by speaking languages. But perhaps the strongest and dominant of all qualities of Human Beings is that they are social primates. Sure there are other species and all most all are known to be socially active, but nothing as complex and deep rooted as the Human Beings. We are capable of living in groups, forming colonies, families, partners, involve in courtship, form social boundaries, governments, countries. Social interaction between humans has given birth to traditions, rituals, values and ethics. In a sense we are all connected by this human bond. It is also our biggest weakness. The Error in Humans. Its a well known fact that is also a popular expression (with numerous variations, but the meaning remains the same)- “The best way to be happy is to make others happy” Its true. We seek happiness in other peoples joys and sadness in their misery. In war the most effective means of torture is by threatening the prisoner’s most loved ones – his family, his children. No other specie is capable of such superior emotion and thought process. It is why we plead, take us but spare them. We are ready to face death in the interest of their survival. Man appears very selfless. But behind this selfless act is a very simple rationale. We are needy, we are needy for love for companionship for support for our basic existence. Solitary confinement is the worst punishment. It is why we are most disturbed when our near and dear pass away. They leave a vacuum in our lifves that can not be filled. A Void. This is man’s greatest gift and greatest folly. Its simply Human Error.

There are many ways to define our fragile existence. Many ways to give it meaning. But it is our memories that shape its purpose and give it context. The private assortment of images, fears, loves, regrets. For it is the cruel irony of life that we are destined to hold the dark with the light. The good with the evil. Success with disappointment. This is what separates us. What makes us human. And in the end, we must fight to hold on to.
-Heroes : 2.08

Written in memory of Gp Capt. SK Bhatia , may your soul rest in peace

Its customary for me to pull of some sort of prank on April Fool’s Day every year. This year’s day has gone by without one. Though today was a darn jolly day (darn jolly?- dont ask ). I was out almost all day roaming around with friends in the car. Played Counter-Strike on LAN, which was probably the high point in my day. However I missed out on pulling some friend’s leg, shocking them with some nasty news or a prank of any sort. Some of the memorable one that I did pull-off in the past were really hilarious. Making a fake website and tricking my friends to believe that the info was secretly mailed to her dad- I am afraid I can divulge only one at present- but trust me I’ve had some other good ones which are a bit personal for this blogspace.

Now I did have a few thought in my brain this year. One of them was a very serious blog post about me coming ‘out-of-the-closet’ and embracing who ‘I-truly-am’. However that joke would simply fail on so many levels that I decided to drop it. For starters, I didnt want to encourage any more dormant rumors about my preferences. Secondly, people would end up believing them and then I would have hard time telling people that It was actually a joke. Then there was another one, where I would profess my ‘fake-deep-love’ to a dear friend. Now this would fail too for the exact opposite reasons. She wouldn’t believe me even if i stood at her doorstep with roses in my hand. Cant really blame her- one day i call her a skanky pig and next day I am confessing love! – just wouldn’t work! . Here is an excerpt of the chat log.(pass protected)

Now since both these plans did fail, and I am left with no time or ideas, this April Fool’s day goes officially nulled/void. Its kinda sad, because this is really one day I have good fun (I have hoverer had my heart stopped in the past ). I am being positive on this occasion and hope for a hilarious year ahead. Cheers to all

So you are sitting at home bored, on a nice sunday morning. You decide to go to the park! Unfortunately your friends are either busy or cant make it. So you decide to go alone. Instead of going there alone sad (perv too) here are some cool stuff that you can do and have one helluva time.

Take your laptop, external speakers along and find a nice spot where a lot of couples are canoodling and set up your baby. Fire up your fav fps and go chk-chk-BHOOM. You ll drive the couples insane and have a great time fragging in the outdoors!

Pretend your cellphone is the choicest weapon of your liking (my fav : shotgun) and pretend to play counter strike. Hide behind trees bushes and pretend to kill the people. To make things more interesting, try playing Hitman and a fiber-wire as your weapon.

Assign specific places with IP addresses, mark some major bushes as routers and pretend to be a data packet. In case of CSMA/CA start again. You can tweak this one and try and behave like a virus (W32.Love.bug) and try to infiltrate “desktops” (This one is dangerous, try only if you are a pro and good at running ))

Plug in noise cancellation earbuds, select some punk rock song, and hit play! Now pretend you are the band’s drummer and go nuts banging your head. Pour some water over your head for eXtra effects! Modify this by trying some “lyrical” tunes like Eminem, snoop dog

Last and final, sit under a quite tree and try mobile blogging, like i did for this article

Cheers ! Hope you have fun

You have people complaining about their lives so very often. For some its about monotony, for some it is a loss or failure and for some its simply the ‘not-knowing’ that’s frustrating. I think the sweetest part about life is this ‘not-knowing’. To be more accurate, it’s the ‘not-knowing’ that will soon unfold. For me life is like a sitcom or a drama TV show (prison break). Its funny, nerve racking, exciting and sad. Of course this is a modern day explanation of the saying ‘Life is full of ups and downs’ but a little different in its own mysterious unknown way. You are always waiting to see what happens next; you know that the future is inevitable and someday you will have to face it, but not just yet. No matter how badly you may want to know, you will never know what turn your life is about to take. Its like a TV episode that has not yet been scripted, shot or aired. Often you get stuck in a moment that you can’t get out of and you wish you had a remote control to fast forward and see what happens next. That is stealing away the fun and robbing yourself of your life. If anyone of you has seen the movie Click, you’d probably relate to what I am talking about. Living life in the fast lane, driving at a hundred kilometer per hour and watching the trees go by in a blur, desperate to reach some destination. When you do reach there, all you can think of is trying to remember how the ride was – but you find yourself left with no answers. So guys put down that remote control and watch your sitcom unfold itself episode by episode, savor the advertisements and make sure you are biting your nails when you reach the finale. Just make sure you give your best performance on every shot
